Considering the heights of popular acclaim John Scalzi has reached in the last couple years, he hardly needs my help in spreading the word that his latest novel in the Old Man's War universe hits the shelves today. John Scalzi had a couple of things in mind when he wrote this book. Title: Zoe's Tale Author: John Scalzi Publisher: Tor UK Format: Paperback Pages: 335. Several weeks ago, when he was going away to camp, I tried to come up with a gift to send along with my 14-year-old son. From what I understand, Zoe's Tale is a retelling of The Last Colony, the third book in his Old Man's War trilogy*. One was to tell Zoe's story as it ran parallel to the events in The Last Colony, and the other was to do his first YA novel. Zoe's Tale cover The “Zoe” in Zoe's Tale is a teenage girl who accompanies her adoptive father and mother (plus two alien bodyguards) to colonize a new planet. Great as a standalone and fits well in the Old Man's War universe.The story is from the standpoint of Zoe, the adopted daughter of the main characters from Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades. The final novel in the Old Man's War series demonstrates just how brilliant a writer John Scalzi is. How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history? Note: I make fun of a quote on the back of this book that really makes no sense here. While I do keep an eye on his blog, this was my first John Scalzi novel. Moochable copies: No copies available. I ask because it's what I have to do. Yeah, using a version number is cliche, but it really is appropriate. Since I just recently organized a panel at the Ann Arbor District Library featuring Tobias S. John Scalzi returns to the world he first introduced in the excellent Old Man's War with Zoe's Tale, a science fiction adventure that tells the story of teenage Zoe and her experiences as a colonist on a distant planet.
